Bhatkal: A 19-year-old college student who had been reported missing by her family on Thursday was found dead in a well near her residence in Bhatkal taluk on Friday afternoon. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide, though the exact circumstances surrounding the death are under investigation.
According to sources, Gayathri Nagaraj Naik, a resident of Kanchi Keri in Belke village, had gone missing on Thursday. Her family subsequently lodged a missing person complaint at the Bhatkal Rural Police Station, following which a search was launched.
The search ended tragically on Friday when her body was discovered in a well located close to her house at around 2.30 pm.
Gayathri was a second-year Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) student at a local college. Her sudden death has left family members, friends and residents of the area in shock.
A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Rural Police Station. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police have initiated further investigations to ascertain the circumstances that led to her death.
