Kumta: The increasing level of sea water in the Arabian sea is common every year as heavy rain had lashed the Coastal parts of Karnataka. But in Vanalli, a coastal part of Kumta, residents are terrified as high waves is approaching nearby houses.

Vanalli is an area about 2km away from the city with more than 300 houses located around sea where majority of the houses belongs to Muslim community. Fishing is a popular occupation of these residents. But, as the rainy season begins a fear settles among the residents as many houses are located near to the sea.

When asked, the locals said that this part of the sea has very huge waves because of heavy winds and rising water levels. The villagers are frightened that the sea water might enter their houses. Also, the stop-walls have been completely washed away by sea which was constructed more than the decades before. They demanded that the concerned authorities should immediately build the protective walls.

It maybe noted that about 2 years ago, the port department had constructed the stop walls and a platform to halt the boats by sanctioning 2.5 crores at the corners of the hills.

Speaking to media, the president of Vanalli Jamat Ul Muslimeen Abusaleha Mulla said that some dangerous spots have come up in the sea due to the unsatisfactory works. Also about a week back two fishermen had drowned in the sea.
