Mangaluru: A man from the city, who had gone to Rajasthan for a business deal was kidnapped, and now was released by the timely interventions of Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader.
As per the sources, Arun D'Souza received an internet call that four generators are available at Bharathpura in Rajastan at low rate. So, he sent his accomplice Richard Marian Lazrath to purchase the generator on July 28.
Lazrath reached Bharathpura on July 30. The man who had promised to give the generator took him to an unknown place. Then, he called Arun and demanded Rs 10 lakh to release Lazrath safely.
Arun, with the help of Youth Congress leaders Prakash Pinto Kerebail and Pavan Raj Kolya approached U T Khader and told him of the situation.The minister, in turn, spoke to City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar, who contacted IGP of Bharathpur, Alok Vasista.
It is said that a team of police personnel from Mangaluru reached the location on August 1 and traced the phone location of Lazrath to Bastan, Rajasthan's border with Uttar Pradesh, a place known for active gangs of robbers and illegal gun trade.
The Rajasthan police arrested one notorious gang at Bastan and seized bikes, guns and ganja. On hearing the arrest of a gang, the kidnappers left Lazrath and fled the spot.
It is said that Lazrath was tied in a field and was allegedly assaulted by the gang. According to Lazrath, 12 persons were in the gang that had kidnapped him.
Prakash Pinto Kerebail who is at Bharatpur, has thanked Minister U T Khader, City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar, DCP Shantharaj, ACP Shruthi and Bharatpura IG.
