Karwar: In a memorandum to district administration submitted here on Tuesday, the fishermen society members of Kumta region said rampant sand mining on the bank of Aghanashini River in Kumta taluk is posing danger to their profession.
According to them, rampant sand mining which is going on near Taribagil, Hegade, Konkani, Sashihitala, Lukkeri, Divagi and other areas in Kumta taluk since last four years, has adversely affected the production of fish in Aghanashini river. If sand mining continues unabated, it would pose risk to their profession. They also said movement of sand-laden Lorries were causing inconvenience to them.
Hence, district administration should take measures to check sand mining in the region, they appealed.
