Mangaluru: Mangaluru MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has warned of a Dakshina Kannada District bandh if the persons named by DSP MK Ganapathy, who committed suicide at a hotel in Madikeri on Thursday, were not arrested soon.
We want all the persons named in Ganapathy's statement both on electronic media and his death note to be arrested. We will wait for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's statement in the Assembly on the suicide. If his answer is not satisfactory, we will call for a DK bandh,'' he said.
Observing that the death of the official was a wakeup call for the state government, he alleged that all officials in the Congress government were under the government's thumb and under tremendous pressure. If a police officer feels that he is not safe, what about ordinary citizens,'' questioned Kateel adding that the second such incident within a week does not augur well for the government.
On Ganapathy, Kateel said he had shown exemplary courage in dealing with criminal elements and also containing communal violence. He also recalled his role in dealing with violence with iron hand during attacks on churches in 2008 in the district.
If CM does not give justice, we will take up the issue in the Parliament. Our party will also raise this issue in both Houses - both in state and the centre,'' he added.
