Karwar: Zilla Panchayat President Jayashree Moger urged the need for controlling population to ensure economic development and progress of country as population explosion leads to various problems.

Speaking after inaugurating World population Day at District Health and Family Welfare Department, she called upon the health department officials, Asha workers and public representatives to spread awareness on the need for population control.

Municipal President Ganapathi Nayak flagged off the awareness rally from Deputy Commissioner’s office before the programme. The rally passed through major parts of the city before halting at the District Health and family Welfare Department. Students of Government Arts and Science College had participated in the rally.

Zilla Panchayat Education & Health Standing Committee President LT Patel said increase in population is a dangerous as it leads to many problems in the country such as poor supply of basic facilities on proper time etc.

Zilla Panchayat Social Justice Committee President Basavaraj Doddamani said government should take measures to control population and people should be made aware about problems of population explosion.

As part of the programme, ORS packets were distributed to children below 5 to control diarrhea.

Municipality President Ganapathi Nayak chaired the programme. Zilla Panchayat Vice-President Santosh Renake, District Health and Family Welfare Department Office Dr GN Ashok Kumar, Municipal Vice-president Leelabai Thanekar, Government Arts and Science PU College Principal Kalpana Keravadikar, Government Polytechnic College Principal VM Hegde were present.
