Bhatkal: Three persons were killed after a speeding truck ploughed into three person including a woman at Masti Kattey NH 63 on early hours of Monday.

According to the sources, the woman was crossing the road towards her car, after getting tea from a roadside canteen, when the lorry rammed into her. The lorry lost control after hitting the woman and then ran over two more who were engaged in repairing their lorry which was parked on the side of the road.

The deceased woman is identified as Sidawwa Halappa Ganiger (55) hailing from Hubli. She was with her family members returning to Hubli on a car after performing pooja at a temple in Ankola.

The other two deceased were identified as lorry driver Kalappa (45) and cleaner Chinappa (35) hailing from Kalghatgi.

Sources added that the lorry was heading towards Goa loaded with fish from Andhra Pradesh. It is also said that lorry driver fled from the scene soon after the accident.

A case has been registered in Ankola Police station.
