Karwar: The 70th Independence Day was celebrated amidst attractive parade, cultural programme, patriotic singing, and dancing felicitation to achievers at Police Parade ground in Karwar on Monday.
District In-charge Minister RV Deshpande hoisted the tricolour and received the guard of honour.
During his Independence Day Speech, Deshpande said that Uttara Kannada district is turning into a tourism hub and now measure are on to provide job opportunities for local people. Under the coastal circuit scheme, Rs 30 crore is being spent for the development of 12 beaches. Rs 92 crore is released under Swadesh Darshan Scheme.
Funds have been sanctioned for development of Karwar city. Rs 40 crore is released for the farmers who have incurred crop loss and Rs 11 crore input subsidy is credit to bank accounts of 24000 farmers. Mini Vidhan Soudha would be constructed in next 18 months in every taluk of the district.On the occasion, the achievers were felicitated.
MLA Satish Sail, ZP President Jayashree Mogere, ZP Vice-President Santosh Renake, CMC President Ganpathi Naik, Deputy Commissioner SS Nakul, Superintendent of Police P Vamshi Krishna and others were present.
