Kundapur: ATM robbery goes wrong, suspect arrested Kundapur: A man was arrested in connection with a failed ATM robbery which took place at Hemmady near Kundapur.
According to the sources, Shekhar Poojary(36), a construction worker from Kumbhashi, tried to rob the ATM near a under-construction building where he was working at Hemmady.
It is said that he came with an intention to loot the ATM at midnight 1.30 pm in a nearly-drunken state concealing his face with his shirt. He broke down the installed CCTV camera at the ATM and started breaking the ATM machine with an iron bar and hammer. 2 hours after the intense hard work, he could not break the ATM.
At 3.30, when the police team comprising of Joseph and Nagraj arrived in the vicinity, Shekar fled away leaving his slippers and his tools.
Sub-Inspector Nasir Hussain, Additional SP Vishnu Vardhan, DYSP Praveen Naik arrived at the spot and inspected the place. They found the slippers and after questioning the workers, could trace out the culprit.
Shekhar was finally arrested and he admitted to have committed the crime. Interestingly, he also admitted that he had come back in the morning to the ATM only to return back after witnessing the crowd and police near the ATM. He also said that he carried on the crime after being inspired by a television serial.
It is said that the ATM is owned by a Tata communications and there is no security guard appointed at the ATM.
