Karwar: The state government has approved Rs 190 crore for development of tourist destinations in various districts in the state in the last three years and till now Rs 116 crore has been released said Heavy and medium Industries & Infrastructure Development Minister R V Deshpande.
Addressing a meeting organized to review tourism development works taken up in Uttara Kannada district, in Karwar, Deshpande said as many as 134 works have been taken up for development of tourist spots in the district and presently, 57 works have been completed.
The works are being implemented under the aegis of Forest Department, PWD, KRIDL and Nirmithi Kendra. The minister then instructed officers to ensure quality of works.
Deshpande said a number of beaches in the district are being developed under Mega Coastal Circle Project.
The beaches being development include Murdeshwar Bali beach, Apsarkonda beach, Kasarkod beach, Pavinkurve beach, Om beach, Kudle beach, Gokarna beach, Kumta beach, Belekeri beach, Tagore beach, Majali beach and Teemathi beach.
Works including construction of life-saviours inspection tower, connecting road work, installation of high-mast lamps, managing solid waste, purchase of life-saving boats, providing parking facilities etc.
He said many waterfalls are being developed. Roads near the falls are being improved; watch towers are being constructed etc. Also, Eco beach and Nature camps are being constructed.
MLA Satish Sail, Zilla Panchayat President Jayashri Moger, Vise-president Santosh Renake, Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul, Additional Deputy Commissioner H Prasanna and officers were present in the meeting.
