Karwar: Janashakti Vedike President Madhav Naik has charged that Sea-Bird Naval Base officials are not allowing Karwar Naval Base Cooperative Society, which has locals as members, to function.
Briefing reporters, he said local workers of naval base registered their cooperative society on April1, 2016 at Co-operative department. However, so far officials of naval base are not allowing the society to function.
All naval base in India have local co-operative society functioning, which is against law, he charged.
Vedike’s Legal advisor S Belurkar said there are several charges of corruption lodged against Maharashtra based co-operative society. A member of that society, Ajaykumar, had filed a complained to Uttara Kannada district Co-operative department recently.
Sea Bird Naval Base has an annual transaction of Rs 11 crore, however, Karnataka is losing out Rs 11 lakh on stamp duty as co-operative society is based in Maharashtra.
If the cooperative society was based in Karnataka, then State would have benefited.
He said Vedike will submit a memorandum on Monday to Naval base flag office, demanding recognition of Karwar co-operative society.
