Karwar: District in-charge minister RV Deshpande has informed that a new district jail would be constructed at Kanasageri in Karwar taluk and the existing jail would be shifted to Kanasageri.

Briefing reporters here, on Monday, he said that a proposal was submitted to the government and fund was reserved in the budget for the new jail. Officials concerned already have inspected the land for setting up the jail.

If work is delayed, it will impact on its quality and expenditure will also increase, he explained. He said Kundapur-Karwar Highway widening work was in progress and order has been issued for construction of bypass in Kumta. He urged people to cooperate with officials for completing Karwar-Kodibag Road extension work.
