Bhatkal: Yet another accident occurred on National Highway 66 in front of Noor Masjid, Bhatkal, on Sunday evening when a bike collided with a lorry. Fortunately, the rider escaped with only minor injuries. The accident took place at around 4:15 PM.
According to eyewitnesses, the biker, while trying to avoid small potholes on the road, collided with a mini-lorry loaded with fish coming from the opposite direction. The rider, identified as Omshikrishna, a resident of Tamil Nadu, sustained minor injuries. It is learnt that he was traveling from Udupi towards Murdeshwar, while the mini-lorry was heading from Bhatkal’s Shamsuddin Circle towards Mangaluru.
Local residents pointed out that the four-laning work on the National Highway has been stalled for a long time in the heart of the city, resulting in frequent accidents. Moreover, the recent rains have worsened the road condition, creating potholes across the stretch. Riders, especially bikers, often swerve to avoid these potholes, which pushes them into the opposite lane, leading to collisions with oncoming vehicles.
It may be recalled that on Saturday, at the very same spot, a tanker rammed into a bike from behind, killing the rider on the spot, while his wife, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries.
