Bhatkal: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past several days has led to severe waterlogging at the government model Urdu school in Nawayath Colony, Bhatkal. The school playground has turned into a pool, forcing both students and teachers to wade through knee-deep water just to enter the premises.

Teachers report that this has become a recurring issue during every monsoon, with the school ground regularly turning into a water body due to lack of proper drainage facilities. Despite repeated appeals, the authorities have failed to address the root cause.

Established in 1959 and upgraded to a high school in 2013, the institution currently has around 145 students enrolled — 70 in the primary section and 75 in the high school. While the academic standards remain commendable, the school continues to suffer from a serious lack of basic infrastructure, particularly an efficient drainage system.

Teachers and parents have repeatedly urged the local authorities to construct a proper drainage outlet in the school courtyard to ensure safer and more convenient access for students during the rainy season. However, according to school officials, neither the Bhatkal municipal council nor the Jali Patan panchayat has shown any initiative to resolve the problem.

Visit by Block Education Officer (BEO)

Following the worsening conditions caused by incessant rains, BEO Venkatesh Naik visited the school to assess the situation. After inspecting the premises, he contacted the municipal authorities and assured that efforts would be made to resolve the issue at the earliest.

Present during the visit were school development committee president Hassan Khan, member Syed Saleem, high school headmaster Ayub Khan, and primary school headmistress Sabeeha Banu.
